The President of the Mexican Olympic Committee, Felipe Muñoz, let CACSO and its president know that the events from the XXI Central American and Caribbean Games, Mayagüez 2010 that were to be held in Guadalajara are canceled.
Muñoz stated that the delicate health situation in Mexico due to the Swine Flu (AH1N1), its effect on the economy, budget cuts, and the resignation of the Vice Minister of Sports, Carlos Hermosillo, who chose to dedicate himself to politics, the city of Guadalajara backed out on being a sub ste in the Games.
"He let me know in writing that Guadalajara is unable to celebrate these events due to the situation within the country. I know how the situation is. I will consult with CACSO's Executive Committee in order to discuss this as soon as possible. I have already informed the Organizing Committe and we'll look for ways to see which events can be saved", expressed Cardona.
The sports that were canceled in Guadalajara are: skating, rowing, rhythmic gymnastics, squash, pentathlon, basque pelota, and ruby.
On the flip side, he said that after knowing that the Organizing Committee and the Cyclism Federation are conversing with AFI in order to try to build a velodrome, he cancelled the plans he had initiated with Cuba in order to celebrate this sport within the neighboring island.
